Assessment of Creative Potential in Children and Adolescents with Typical Development, Giftedness, and Twice-Exceptionality

Wed, April 8, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

Creativity has been valued as one of the most important skills in contemporary times. In this context, aiming to assess the creative potential of children and adolescents, the present study compared the performance of students with typical development (n = 370), identified as gifted (n = 114), and with twice-exceptionality (n = 65) using a figural creativity assessment test. The results demonstrated significant differences among groups, with the gifted group obtaining the highest average scores, followed by the twice-exceptional group. Based on the normative data of the instrument used, potential cases of productive-creative giftedness were identified, totaling 153 participants who reached the 95th percentile. Notably, many of them were not previously identified as gifted and were from the control group.
