(Re)reading Althusser in the 2020s: Toward a more complex sense of ideology in education

Abstract

For the past 30 or so years, much of critical scholarship in educational research has been dominated by poststructural theories and projects. And in that time, we have seen more erosion of teacher autonomy and further alienation and dehumanization as our primary educational outcomes. This presentation seeks to (re)read Althusser’s contributions to Marxian thinking in education in new ways, informed by our contemporary struggles in late capitalism in the mid 2020s.
