Abstract

As research on COVID-19 has continued to develop, long-term health effects and disabling conditions have been named as potential risks of exposure and repeated infections. However, COVID-19 precautions in the United States have largely dwindled. In this piece, I examine my own COVID-19 precautions, primarily through the process of wearing a well-fitting respirator, and how this practice intersects with visions of community safety that exist outside of current systems. This work seeks to show how the practice of masking actualizes dreams of disability justice and invites educational researchers to consider ways of including disability justice in their visions of educational futures.
