Voices From the Classroom: Shaping English Language Conferences in Jordan

Thu, April 9, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 515B

Abstract

International organizations occupy an important role in the development of education around the world, often collaborating with local schools, universities, and regional offices to increase educational opportunities for children and deliver professional development opportunities for teachers. Findings from this research identify Jordanian English teachers’ perceptions of a language conference in 2023 and 2024 organized by two American universities, two Jordanian universities, and a Jordanian NGO to address a paucity of professional development opportunities for English teachers. Adopting the communities of practice framework to analyze surveyed responses, more than four hundred Jordanian teachers claimed the conference contributed to their evolving pedagogical practice that included practical and interactive strategies to positively impact students’ motivation and develop their communication skills.
