Abstract

In response to growing diversity in schools, teacher education has increasingly sought to develop within early career teacher an asset orientation - a set of dispositions that help teachers recognize the funds of knowledge of ethnoracially diverse students. The following study explores the development of an asset orientation for five early-career Catholic school teachers. Using a critical research methodology, this investigation examines how the teacher grounded their understanding of an asset orientation within specifically Catholic teachings and values, namely, the human dignity of students, Christ-centered love, and the virtue of humility.
