Abstract

As Generative AI (GenAI) tools become more integrated into higher education, Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) professionals need guidance on how to ethically use these tools in their professional work. While significant attention has been to faculty and K12 teachers, little research has addressed the professional development needs of HESA professionals. To address this gap, we designed and conducted a Zoom-based Workshop designed to build AI literacy and self-efficacy among HESA practitioners from universities across the US. Using pre-/post-surveys, we found that participants’ reported significant gains in their AI literacy and self-efficacy. We offer a reliable survey instrument and an equity-centered model for engaging busy HESA professionals.
