Fri, April 10, 3:45 to 5:15pm PDT (3:45 to 5:15pm PDT), JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE, Floor: 4th Floor, Diamond 2

Abstract

This study explores the lasting impact of the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program (MSP) on the personal and professional trajectories of four first-generation Latina scholars. Previous research highlights the MSP’s success increasing graduate enrollment among underrepresented students but further research is necessary to explore the experiences of MSP alumni beyond graduate school. By utilizing Yosso’s Community Cultural Wealth framework and Chicana Latina Feminista (CLF) plática methodology, this study illustrates how the MSP has shaped participants’ current approaches to teaching, mentoring, and community engagement in their personal and professional practice, thereby highlighting the significant need for programs like the MSP across the nation.
