Abstract

Amid global teacher shortages and declining interest in teaching, understanding teachers’ occupational well-being is critical for improving educational outcomes at all levels. Guided by a multidimensional framework, this study examined the four well-being dimensions using PISA 2022 teacher data from eight countries (N = 11,217 mathematics teachers). The findings revealed that well-being varied by country, region, and OECD membership with the highest composite scores in Australia and the lowest in Korea. Social well-being was highest while physical/mental well-being was lowest. Regression analyses indicated higher well-being in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East and lower well-being in Latin America compared to Europe. Teacher education was a consistent positive predictor. These findings contribute comparative evidence to international research on teachers’ occupational well-being.
