Abstract

We conducted a comprehensive literature meta-synthesis to identify and categorize efforts made to improve undergraduate STEM education in the United States, based on published research from 2013 to 2023. Across multiple library databases, we identified and coded 205 relevant articles published during this period that addressed change strategies and other change-related characteristics, based on the four-square typology of change strategies (Henderson et al., 2011). We also examined the quality of the change initiatives described in the included articles. Results show that the developing shared vision change strategy has grown in prevalence compared to results from the 2011 meta-synthesis. Quality measures suggest that more explicit use of change theories is still needed.
