Abstract

Research has extensively investigated the role of AI in enhancing learner engagement across diverse educational contexts. The increasing adoption of AI-driven interventions raises critical questions about their efficacy and implementation outcomes. This meta-analytic study systematically evaluates the impact of AI on learning engagement, examining cognitive, behavioral, and affective dimensions while identifying key moderating factors. We found a medium level of effectiveness for AI-integrated interventions on student engagement across cognitive, behavioral, and affective dimensions. Notably, different moderators—such as subject domain, educational level, type of AI technology used—significantly shape outcomes in each dimension. These results provide empirical insights into the nuanced effectiveness of AI in enhancing learning engagement, informing future research and practice for optimizing engagement through tailored AI applications.
