School Attendance and Reasons for Missing School Vary by Sense of Belonging

Abstract

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, student absenteeism has remained a national challenge. We explored trends around sense of belonging and student absenteeism, including the reasons for students missing school. Our descriptive results highlight trends expected, and evident, from prior research, yet offers continuity and additional evidence toward a holistic understanding of attendance, absenteeism, and the role of sense of belonging.
