Abstract

The 2026 AERA theme calls on us to reflect on the theme “Unforgetting Histories and Imagining Futures: Constructing a New Vision for Education Research.” This paper answers that call by turning to ancient Chinese wisdom traditions—nearly erased after the May Fourth Movement of 1919 —to help shape a new vision for education in the age of artificial intelligence.

This study explores how Chinese wisdom traditions—especially Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism—have been transformatively recreated to help reshape modern education and guide curriculum development in the age of digital intelligence. These processes provide models of cultural and intellectual transformation for the age of AI.
