This paper introduces CAPTURE (Critical Analysis of Policy to Understand Research Evidence), a method to assess whether, how, and the degree to which authors of research products address the larger systems of power within which research evidence is situated. Although calls for critical lenses in studies of research evidence production, mobilization, and use have increased, such approaches remain underutilized. We detail the development of CAPTURE, provide step-by-step guidance for its use, and apply it to three education research products. Validity tests support the tool’s reliability. We conclude by highlighting its benefits and recommending future applications.
