Abstract

As a refusal to accept dehumanizing, traditionally accepted teacher development praxis, the Sista Circle Lab Methodology proposal presents a model for a fugitive space in teacher education for Black women science teachers. Giving us space to engage in the historical practice of memory work and speculation that gave us the freedom to imagine and create what we did not experience ourselves. This work is inspired by the work of Cynthia Dillard (2000; 2016; 2022) to reclaim the teaching of Black women as a precursor to science teaching and learning. In this proposal, key components of the methodology including its sample activities and evidence of developing affirming self-definition for the participants in this qualitative study is provided.
