Abstract

As León Felipe said, “who does not close ten centuries of history by seeing the same things as always but with a different date?” This paper asks whether the phenomenon of power is the root cause behind the failure of progressive social initiatives—and whether racism, patriarchy, sexism, and capitalism are all expressions of the same force: power exercised by some over others. It explores power as a central social force and examines how curriculum studies can challenge and transform power relations. Drawing on Mills (1956), Lukes (2005), and Foucault (2006, 2007), and engaging with Global South thinkers like Ponce (1934), Freire (1970), Apple (1979), Walsh (2009), and Paraskeva (2016), the study envisions education as a site for resistance and emancipation.
