Abstract

Grounded in critical race theory (CRT), this quantitative study examined how campus culture influenced perceptions of implicit racial bias among students of African descent, using Asian, Hispanic, and White students as a comparison group across three predominantly White colleges and universities (PWCUs) in a large metropolitan area of the United States. Implicit racial bias refers to subtle, often unconscious attitudes or stereotypes that negatively affect perceptions and behaviors toward underrepresented and racialized groups (Greenwald & Krieger, 2006). The researcher developed the Implicit Racial Bias Higher Education Questionnaire (IRBHEQ) to measure perceptions of implicit bias among students. The findings support the argument that colleges and universities uphold White supremacy by privileging Eurocentric learning objectives and experiences.
