Abstract

This study leverages ten years of instructional faculty salary data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) to explore salary inequities between MSIs and non MSI peers. Results suggest, when compared to all other institution types, AANAPISIs pay higher salaries at nearly all faculty ranks than peers, with a clear hierarchy of institutions emerging from highest to lowest salaries: HSIs, then non MSIs, followed distantly by HCBUs and Tribal Colleges. Moreover, piecewise regression analyses revealed that AANAPISI faculty salaries decrease at a 62% breakpoint of Student of Color enrollment, while non MSI faculty salaries sharply decrease once institutional enrollment reaches 19% Students of Color. Implications for research and equity between and within Minority-Serving Institutions is addressed.
