Abstract

This study explores the experiences of middle school teachers who participated in a school counselor-led mindfulness-based consultation intervention over a five-week period. Using a longitudinal phenomenological approach, the researchers analyzed weekly reflective journals from the participating teachers (N = 9) to identify three themes. The first theme was consultation promotes intentional self-reflection and behavioral changes. The second theme, strengthening connections and compassion, included two subthemes: self-insight fosters student engagement and feeling valued by and valuing colleagues. The final theme was increased use of mindfulness techniques leads to self and co-regulation. The authors describe the significance of this study, in particular how teachers and school counselors can contribute to safe and supportive school environments.
