The study explores the integration of AI image generation software (e.g., DALLĀ·E, Midjourney) into studio art instruction. Using a design-based research approach, it looks into prompt engineering and pedagogical approaches enabling creative experimentation and digital fluency. From an experiment in a university course, it observes students' application of AI software, their ability to manage creative output through iterative requests, and their attention to ethical considerations such as authorship and originality. The findings offer a pedagogical framework to integrate AI in art education, emphasizing critical thinking, creative agency, and equitable access. The research contributes to the novel area of AI and education through highlighting interdisciplinarity teaching approaches and future creative industries implications.
