This study examines whether AVID participation is associated with postsecondary predisposition and search behaviors among historically underrepresented students, using nationally representative data. Findings indicate that AVID students are more likely to engage in key college search activities, such as campus tours and counselor consultations, and to expect a bachelor’s degree. These associations are especially pronounced for first-generation, low-income, and racially marginalized students. Although AVID is designed to build the social capital needed for college access, its role in shaping early college-planning behaviors remains understudied. This analysis provides new evidence that AVID may support postsecondary opportunity by offering relational resources that help close opportunity gaps.
