Abstract

Institutional climates have a significant effect on staff retention in higher education institutions. Previous studies on staff have been primarily qualitative and few have focused on the experiences of women of color mid-level professionals. This study uses data from the Higher Education Research Institute’s (HERI) 2020 Staff Climate Survey to examine the extent to which institutional support and the campus climate affect turnover rates among women of color mid-level higher education professionals. Utilizing structural equation modeling, results show that campus racial and gender climate influences a sense of feeling valued and turnover rates.
