Abstract

Health intervention research increasingly includes economic evaluations to assess cost-effectiveness and real-world feasibility. This systematic literature review synthesizes how mixed methods designs are employed in health intervention studies incorporating economic evaluation by using peer-reviewed empirical studies published between 2020 and 2025, with a focus on how economic data is incorporated and interpreted within mixed methods frameworks. Guided by Creswell and Plano Clark (2018) and Fetters et al. (2013), the review finds variety in strategies of mixing methods with economic data. Thematic synthesis reveals typological inconsistency; minimal conceptual use of economic data in qualitative strands; and varying depth of integration, joint displays, or other aids. The review concludes with methodological recommendations for future mixed methods health intervention research incorporating economic data.
