Abstract

Black students with and without special education services experiencing disproportionate exclusionary discipline is well documented through statistical data. There is a story behind the data for a population who continues to experience unjust outcomes in schools. To better understand the perspective of this population, this study systematically identified twelve studies to know the extent to which there is qualitative literature with student perceptions on school discipline, common themes from their perceptions, and how their perceptions varied based on student characteristics. The results synthesize, uplift, and highlight the voices of Black students.
