Abstract

This study examines factors influencing digital media addiction among 13-year-old adolescents in Korea, using data from a national longitudinal panel (N = 1,303). Guided by research on developmental and contextual influences, we employed multiple regression analyses to explore the effects of academic stress, school adjustment, peer exclusion, and parental attachment on digital media addiction. Findings indicate that academic stress and poor adjustment to school are the strongest predictors of media addiction, followed by peer exclusion and weaker attachment to mothers. Attachment to fathers was not a significant predictor. Results highlight the importance of addressing school environments, peer relationships, and family support when developing interventions for digital media overuse among adolescents.
