Wed, April 8, 1:45 to 3:15pm PDT (1:45 to 3:15pm PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This study explores and amplifies the experiences of Black women working as frontline healthcare employees and supervisors related to their perception of how their employer’s leadership style influences their understanding of organizational justice. This nested, mixed-methods explanatory study investigates their experiences through a Black feminist lens. Specifically, this study examines the human resource development (HRD) implications of interactional justice, assessed through interactions between employees and their supervisors. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ5X) is the survey instrument used to explore supervisor leadership styles. Six frontline healthcare employees and six healthcare supervisors were invited to participate in an interview to explore their specific experiences. The quantitative and qualitative findings were analyzed and merged to create actionable steps for organizational development.
