Abstract

Imaginative thinking is a key component of the creative process. The researchers of this study explored patterns of personality and imagination of university students across sex and college disciplines (N = 1,560). First, latent profile analysis was used, and a three-profile solution was identified: Balance Visionaries, Reactive Realists, and Reserved Idealists. To further assess profile differences, we conducted covariate analyses and found that most students placed within the Reserved Idealists profile were enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (28.95%), and participants’ legal sex was significantly different between all three profiles. Finally, we noted significant interactions between participants’ sex who were in the Balanced Visionary profile and their college discipline. Implications and future directions will also be discussed.
