Abstract

This mixed-method study examines how teachers understand and support executive function (EF) skills in the context of mathematics teaching and learning, focusing in particular on teachers of Black and Latino students and students experiencing poverty. The study also explored teacher interest in and preferences for professional development (PD) and other supports to better equip educators to foster EF skills in their classrooms. Results indicate teachers may have varying levels of familiarity with EF skills and how to support them in the context of mathematics teaching. Teacher respondents reported high interest in PD, supplemental curricula, and supports to incorporate EF skills learning in math teaching to support learning of challenging math by all students.
