Wed, April 8, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

As more autistic students enroll in higher education, many colleges have developed Autism Support Programs (ASPs) to provide services beyond standard disability accommodations. However, little is known about how these programs operate or the barriers administrators face. This study surveyed 21 ASP directors at four-year institutions across the U.S. using an exploratory mixed-methods design. Key challenges included funding instability, staffing limitations, and difficulties integrating autism-specific supports into institutional structures. Findings call for inclusive instructional practices, stable funding models, and broader institutional support to ensure sustainability and equity in supporting autistic college students.
