Abstract

With growing attention to the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, this study investigates the overall effectiveness of AI-assisted teaching on K–12 students’ learning outcomes through a meta-analysis. A total of 26 empirical studies yielding 60 effect sizes were coded and analyzed. Results revealed that AI had a large overall impact on students’ learning outcomes, including academic performance, higher-order thinking, and affective outcomes, though it showed no significant effect on motivation. Further moderator analysis indicated that educational stage, discipline, intervention duration, type of AI, and pedagogical approach influenced the effectiveness of AI-assisted teaching. This study concludes with evidence-based recommendations for more effective integration of AI in education.
