Abstract

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has become an increasingly important part of education, yet two gaps remain. First, many existing studies treat AI use as a single overall variable, whereas the value of GenAI lies more in how it is used than in whether it is used. Second, most research has been qualitative, highlighting the need for large-scale studies to inform policy. Grounded in the Levels of Technology Integration framework, this study develops a 22-item Teacher AI-use Scale comprising five dimensions: instructional material development, differentiated instruction, student self-regulated learning support, professional development, and ethical awareness. Data from 1,116 teachers demonstrated strong reliability and validity. This is the first AI-use scale for teachers, and extends the Levels of Technology Integration framework.
