Abstract

This study examines a moderated chain mediation model linking personality traits, group cohesion (GC), team emotional intelligence (TEI), and individual emotional intelligence (EI) in interprofessional education (IPE) settings. Analyzing data from 344 health profession students across four institutions, results show agreeableness and openness positively influence EI via GC and TEI (βagreeableness-EI =0.014, 95% BootCI [0.002, 0.031]; βopenness-EI=0.009, 95% BootCI [0.001, 0.023]). Favorable IPE attitudes strengthening mediating pathways (βagreeableness-EI =0.017, 95% BootCI [0.005, 0.029]; βopenness-EI =0.008, 95% BootCI [0.003, 0.025]) and increase GC-TEI coefficients from βagreeableness-EI=1.529 to 2.391 and from βopenness-EI=1.545 to 2.448. These findings advance understanding of personal and team dynamics within interprofessional learning, offering actionable insights to improve both team functioning and individual EI in health professions education.
