Abstract

Engagement in everyday creative activities (ECA) is a good way of experiment with creators’ ideas, to see at which point their outcomes could be acknowledged by peers or experts in the fields. However, little is known about the underlying mechanisms of their development process. So, our study aimed to examine the mediating effect of self-rated Originality on the relationship between engaging in ECA and AI-rated originality in divergent thinking. In our dataset, the indirect effect of ECA on AI-rated originality was significant, whereas the direct effect was not significant, indicating full mediation. These findings revealed that engaging in ECA did not directly enhance AI-rated originality but contributed to AI-judged originality by allowing students to generate self-perceived original ideas.
