Problem-Solving in Practice: Analyzing Aspiring Leaders’ Conversations with Human-Puppeteered Avatar Teachers in Role-Play Simulations

Abstract

This study examined the sequences of aspiring leaders’ problem-solving behaviors during difficult conversations with a human-puppeteered avatar and how these behaviors varied by performance levels. Data came from critical conversations in mixed-reality simulations. Using lag sequential and Ordered Network Analysis, we found that participants engaged in both linear and cyclical problem-solving processes. The Ordered Network Analysis comparison between high- and low-performing participants did not yield statistically significant differences.
