Through Documentaries and Films: Geopolitical and Environmental Education on the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil

Abstract

This study aims to analyze (1) how recent documentary videos and films on the Amazon Rainforest have been used for educational purposes in classroom , on educational platforms, and on commercial streaming platforms and (2) how they narrativize the conflicts involving local indigenous communities and commercial perspectives of the Amazon Rainforest within the context planetary ecological problems. The films and documentaries analyzed foreground the importance of the Amazon Rainforest for educational purposes as well as their political and ideological perspectives. The analysis of the narrative in these films and documentaries reveals challenges and solutions these visual productions present to contemporary audiences.
