Sun, April 12, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This study examines the impact of an online iDrone Camp on middle and high school students’ STEM affinity, focusing on gifted and high-potential learners. Through a mixed-methods approach, the research measured changes in students’ STEM identity, self-concept, value, interest, and attitudes using pre- and post-camp surveys and qualitative reflections. Results showed notable gains, particularly in STEM identity and self-concept of ability. Students also reported greater awareness of STEM careers and increased motivation through culturally responsive, hands-on learning with drone technology. The study highlights the value of integrating emerging technologies with culturally affirming pedagogy to support underrepresented youth. Findings provide implications for designing inclusive, engaging STEM programs that foster long-term interest and persistence in STEM fields.
