Navigating Early Childhood Education in Crisis: The Power of Parenting Apps to Enhance Parent Self-Efficacy

Wed, April 8, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

In light of global crises and challenging situations, this paper examines the power of a digital parenting app in enhancing parental self-efficacy (PSE) and improving the home literacy environment (HLE) for families with toddlers. Using Bronfenbrenner’s socio-ecological theory, the study analyzed data from 184 German families. Results indicated that app users experienced significant increases in both PSE and the frequency of language-stimulating activities. In detail, mediation analysis demonstrated that app engagement positively influenced PSE, which subsequently enhanced the HLE. The findings suggest that digital parenting tools can effectively empower families to support early language development, particularly during crises, contributing to discussions on educational equity and innovative solutions in family support.
