Abstract

Research affirms value in Out-of-School Time (OST) STEM experiences building interest and pathways to high-demand careers. Teen Science Cafes (TSC) foster teen STEM attitudes, self-efficacy, and long-term engagement.
In Fall 2025, TSC leaders hosted a 3-day TSC STEM Fest in recognition of the National Science Foundation’s 75th anniversary for over 700 teens across 48 sites. During this event teens were paired to youth-led career panels with hands-on activity kits. Pre/post-reflection and adult leader surveys reveal that detailed youth responses rose and facilitators observed strong engagement with hands-on materials. Adult participants reported the teens at their sites deepened their STEM career understanding. Findings demonstrate that embedding Career-Connected Learning strategies into OST STEM events cultivates awareness, exploration, and preparation for tomorrow’s STEM workforce.
