Abstract

This study explores how educational leaders learn and apply the Group Level Assessment (GLA) method. GLA is a participatory research methodology that engages communities in exploring issues and co-developing strategies for action. Through an explanatory sequential mixed methods study, we examined how educational leaders use and adapt GLA in their settings. Findings suggest the need for thoughtful teaching of the GLA method, highlighting the social and emotional dimensions of participation, engagement, and collaboration. We present an emerging model that aligns social-emotional learning competencies with each step of the GLA process and offers a framework for teaching and facilitating the GLA method.
