Black women are a crucial demographic in the student affairs professions. While they occupy a small percentage of leadership positions, their presence, work, and stories reveal not only their capacity for leadership, but clear demonstrations of leading with courage. We endeavored to know more about their experiences through this critical race methodological study. During COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing racial reckoning in the U.S., we sought to know more about how Black women student affairs professionals (SAPs) understood their racialized and gendered experiences in their profession. Their stories show how higher educational environments have yet to value their contributions and expertise.
