This research synthesis assembles scholarship representing key ideas to analyze the trajectory of 1) historical and philosophical works that lend explanation to climate anxiety and the existential concept of ‘thrownness’ that can be used to interpolate the phenomenon of climate anxiety, 2) recent works of social science theorizing the tensions, anxieties, and possibilities of the current climate moment, and 3) lessons from these foci and a look at “imagined futures” or “futurities” addressing climate change and implementing a more robust climate change education
