Artificial Intelligence in Teacher Education: A Systematic Scoping Review of Five Years

Abstract

With the aid of artificial intelligence (AI), teacher education can significantly enhance the preparation of teachers. We explored 34 articles published on AI in teacher education (AI-TE) using a systematic scoping review method from 2019 to 2023. We found that studies focus on technological development or professional development. We further synthesize the findings under broader themes: (1) AI for TE improvement, (2) Preservice use of AI, and (3) factors affecting AI utilization. We draw implications for teacher educators and teacher education to improve training.
