What Matters Most: A Mixed-Methods Study of Educational App Preferences Among Parents and Educators

Thu, April 9, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This mixed-methods study investigates how caregivers and educators evaluate educational apps for children. By analyzing the Likert scale scores and open-ended responses of 98 caregivers and 79 educators, the study revealed their common concerns and different preferences in app evaluation. Caregivers emphasized usability, affordability, and safety, while educators prioritized instructional alignment, adaptability, and actionable feedback. T-test results showed significant differences across key rubric items. Qualitative analysis further revealed how context shapes stakeholder expectations and decision-making processes. Findings highlight the need for more flexible, stakeholder-specific app evaluation frameworks that reflect real-world use in both home and school environments.
