Responding to the unsustainable conditions for teachers in Baltimore City, and to build on the research of supporting the retention of teachers, we piloted a project aimed to support early career teachers (ECTs) at Fort Baldwin Elementary/Middle School (pseudonym) in the areas of pedagogy, SEL, and navigating systems. Our intentions for this pilot we titled, “calendar of supports”, carries both short-term and long-term hopes. In the short-term, we wanted this program to support the retention of the participating ECTs. In the long-term, we were curious to see if our calendar of supports would surface processes that can be replicated at other schools and school districts to support ECTs and perhaps add to the practices and research of teacher sustainability.
