This paper is my answer to the questions: How do you get from a qualitative interview transcript to a poem? What role does editing play and how does it change the transcript? In what follows I walk through how I created transcription poems from interview transcripts in my feminist qualitatitive study about teachers expressing milk in schools. I give an in-depth example from one participant, and I include the work I did and the choices I made from the transcript excerpt to the polished poem. This paper session is useful to those who are using poetic inquiry in arts-based research and those interested in focusing on process across artistic genres.
