Academics are critical to the success of higher education institutions. Mentoring programs have been used for career development due to their benefits and because they ensure inclusion, diversity, and equity. This study explores how mentoring programs in Chilean universities address gender inequalities through an Initiative funded by the Chilean Innovation and Development Agency. Using a qualitative methodology based on six case studies, 80 faculty members and key stakeholders who participated in the programs were interviewed. The findings indicate that although mentoring programs benefit academic careers, it is crucial to make them visible and institutionalize. One challenge identified is the excessive academic workload, which makes it difficult for individuals to participate in these initiatives.
