Less Concerned and Not a Priority: Evidence from a Climate Literacy Assessment of Education Students

Sun, April 12, 7:45 to 9:15am PDT (7:45 to 9:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

A climate literacy assessment for university students at a Big 10 university indicate that students enrolled in its college of education are significantly less concerned about climate change and its future impacts than students enrolled in other colleges and disciplines, despite having similar background knowledge about environmental and climate issues. Moreover, education students, primarily pre-service teachers, do not identify education as a sustainability priority, indicating the need for better climate change education both before and during their university education.
