A Planning Self-Perception Scale For Preservice Teachers: Content Validation And Exploratory Factor Structure

Fri, April 10, 3:45 to 5:15pm PDT (3:45 to 5:15pm PDT), InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, Floor: 5th Floor, Los Feliz

Abstract

This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Planning Scale, developed to assess instructional planning competencies in preservice teachers. Grounded in the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS), the scale underwent expert content validation (Aiken’s V) and exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Results confirmed strong internal consistency (α = .958) and supported a unidimensional structure explaining 66.49% of variance. The scale demonstrated high item reliability and validity, supporting its use in clinical teacher preparation programs. Findings highlight its utility for assessing a core teaching competency and provide a practical, evidence-based tool for mentoring and evaluating preservice teachers in residency-based models.
