This study is co-authored by members of a community-based organization (CBO) located in a Northeastern suburb, where almost 50% of the school population is Latinx. The authors—high school graduates, parents, and CBO staff— share their experiences in postsecondary decision-making. Based on research designed to better understand these experiences and to inform programming for high school students at the CBO, this paper incorporates multiple voices to address challenges in postsecondary decision-making faced by first-generation Latinx families and offers recommendations for policy and practice. Through an assets-based lens, authors build on Yosso’s (2005) work on community cultural wealth and Kolluri’s (2023) concept of patchwork social capital to explore the collective power of community in supporting students and families in their postsecondary goals.
