Exploring Relationships Between Implementation Activities, Usage, and Student Learning Outcomes in an Online Math Program

Thu, April 9, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), Los Angeles Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Poster Hall - Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

This analysis was based on an efficacy study designed to investigate the effectiveness of an online platform for formative assessment in enhancing middle school students’ math achievement. No significant difference between the treatment and comparison groups was found. A series of analyses on the program implementation and usage data was conducted to explore the reasons for the lack of anticipated impacts. The findings reveal that while the students with adequate implementation tended to score higher than the comparison group, none of the differences were significant, suggesting a higher dosage may be necessary. Additionally, students who had a higher usage tended to score higher on the posttest. These findings provide insight to improve program implementation and directions to increase student usage.
