Abstract

Implementation research examines how interventions are enacted in real-world settings, distinct from efficacy-focused intervention research. In mathematics education, many evidence-based practices (EBPs) have been developed, but few are implemented effectively at scale. This review applies implementation science to synthesize research on mathematics intervention implementation fidelity under Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Analyzing 11 studies, we found that most emphasized Tier 2 interventions in elementary settings, targeting adherence and exposure. Tier 1 and 3 contexts, secondary math, and other fidelity dimensions were underrepresented. While initial training was common, sustainable supports like coaching and student feedback were rare. We recommend systematic implementation planning, ongoing educator support, and broader fidelity assessments to improve intervention effectiveness.
